„Yes” for local democracy!
03 grudnia 2008
On December 3rd „Project Lodz" Foundation held a press conference which initiated „Yes" for local democracy campaign. Its purpose is to restore the previously determined election date for Community Councils, which stems from the state law, as well as promoting the auxiliary city units as organs through which the citizens may express their will, expectations and opinions about the functioning of their nearest neighborhood.

So far:
1. on December 3rd we've filed a letter to the City Council that urges to remove the law violation, which is passing the bill on extending the Community Council's term of office.
2. we've sent a formal motion to the Ombudsman to intervene within this matter.
3. we began constructing a coalition of organizations interested in the project.
4. we've initiated a informational campaign concerning the Community Councils.

On November 19th the City Council of Lodz passed a bill that extends the term of office of the Community Councils until 2010. It resulted in moving the auxiliary city units election by two years to equal in time with self-governmental elections. So in 2010, on the same day, we'll elect the mayor, the aldermen, community council-men and probably, the country's president. That decision raised our concern and stimulated us to act in order to annul the bill. We began the "Yes" for local democracy!.
