The term "Organization of Public Benefit" has been introduced on January 1, 2004 through the Act on Public Benefit and Voluntary Work. The OPB status can be attributed only to an association or a foundation that has been set up according to this legal regulation. Moreover, such an organization must fulfill additional criteria, for instance concerning transparency or controlling procedures. The OPB status requires those bodies to regularly report its activities, so that all donors could follow results of their donations, as the public benefit status allows receiving 1% of taxes, if a tax payer decided to contribute.
Officially, all those requirements have been fulfilled by the Project Lodz Foundation; this fact was recognized by inscribing us to the State Court Register by the Lodz-Srodmiescie Court.
