PEFARE LIBERTY WEEKEND
17 września 2009
"Project Lodz" Foundation recommends taking part in the international conference devoted to F. Bastiat - PAFERE LIBERTY WEEKEND, organized by the Polish-American Foundation for Economic Research & Education PAFERE, which will take place on the 19th and 20th of September 2009 in Warsaw.

Frédéric Bastiat (1801-1850), the French writer and publicist, is definitely an important figure in the history of the free-market economy. He is known mainly for the simplicity of his reasoning and usage of the simple, intuitive examples in order to explain the economic phenomena. He was refuting the myths of the socialism and the supremacy of the state; he was showing their absurdity by giving simple examples that excited readers' imagination (for example, the broken glass metaphor and the petition of the candles' producers). The output of this unchallenged king of the free-market is still not very well-known in Poland and the other post-communist countries.

It seems that popularizing the knowledge of the basic principles of the free-market economy and the superiority of the personal property over the common property by the Bastiat's works, can be a simple and an efficient way to understand the rules of the free economy that Poland and Europe need  so much.

At the international conference, organized by the PAFERE Foundation, following aspects of the achievements of the Bastiat's thought will be raised: the specific character of the argumentation for the liberty and common sense which makes it possible to use Bastiat's works in the course of the basic economic education of the young generation. Moreover, the lecturers will try to describe the changes in the economy 150 years after Bastiat's death and to tell whether nowadays science has a chance to benefit from his heritage. The aim of the conference is also answering the question of which trend of the modern economic thought is the continuator of the Bastiat's views.

During the conference, the Bastiat's biography, including his political career, personal conversion to the Catholicism and his intellectual achievements, will be presented in the lecture-form.

The conference is also a chance to spend two days in the great company, supporters of the liberty, to establish new contacts and meet many interesting people.

In the conference the prominent experts on the Bastiat's biography and the issues connected with the free-market economy, from Poland, France, Byelorussia and the United States, will participate.
