On 16 October Lady Margaret Thatcher received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lodz. Margaret Thatcher, former prime minister of the UK, changed her country and supported Poland's endeavours for freedom. Unfortunately, due to bad health conditions Mrs. Margaret Thatcher received an award in London, however, she joined the Polish audience at the Faculty of Law and Administration UŁ via teleconference. Laudation speech was delivered by prof. Zofia Wysokińska, who recommended the nominee. The University of Łódź is a first Polish university to honor the "Iron Lady".
The authorities of the following faculties of the University of Łódź made the request for nomination: Faculty of Law and Administration, Faculty of Sociology and Economics and Faculty of International and Political Studies. The whole proceedings was reviewed by: prof. Tomasz Domański from UŁ, prof. Zbigniew Rau from UŁ, prof. Bogdan Szlachta from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, prof. Janusz Świerkocki from UŁ and prof. Jan Winiecki from University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow.
